DECR Communication Service, 11.03.2025.
On March 9, a tree-planting ceremony took place in Campina das Missões, Brazil, on the grounds of the Church of St. John the Apostle and the square dedicated to St. Vladimir, Equal-to-the-Apostles.
The international initiative was organized by the "Memory Garden" NGO, the all-Russian "Victory Volunteers" movement, and the Victory Marshals Memorial Fund. As reported by the Telegram channel of the Argentine Diocese, this large-scale ecological-patriotic campaign aims to plant 27 million trees annually – one for each life lost during the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945).
Participants included:Archpriest Oleg Mokryak, rector of the church;Carlos Justen, Mayor of Campina das Missões;Jacinto Zabolotsky, Honorary Consul of Russia in Rio Grande do Sul state; João Perius, son of Claudino Perius, a WWII veteran.
In his address, Mayor Justen emphasized preserving historical memory: "This garden stands as a tribute to the heroes who sacrificed their lives for freedom and peace. We take pride in immortalizing their legacy and instilling historical reverence in future generations."
Honorary Consul Zabolotsky noted that such memorials strengthen fraternal ties between nations: "Soviet and Brazilian soldiers jointly resisted the Nazi threat. Their heroism remains eternally engraved in our hearts. This garden embodies our gratitude and respect."
