Soviet soldiers-liberators fallen in Second World War were commemorated in Berlin

On 21st February 2025, the laying of flowers ceremony took place at the Soviet War Memorial in Tiergarten, Berlin, commemorating the Soviet soldiers fallen in battle for the freedom and independence of their Homeland in the Great Patriotic War. The event was timed to Defender of the Fatherland Day celebrated in Russia on 23rd February.
Mr Sergei Nechayev, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Federal Republic of Germany, was among those who attended the ceremony, along with other staff members of the Russian Embassy, heads and officials of various diplomatic missions, military attachés from Asian, African, Latin American, European and CIS countries, as well as members of the German veterans’ organizations, and representatives of the mass media and the public.
Among those who took part in the ceremony were clergymen from the Berlin parishes. Those present sang “Memory Eternal” and “Grant, O Lord, Eternal Rest to the Commanders and Soldiers Who Laid Down Their Lives for the Faith and the Fatherland,” website of the Diocese of Berlin and Germany reports.
Later that day, a reception took place at the Embassy of the Russian Federation. Ambassador Sergei Nechayev greeted all those present on the occasion of Defender of the Fatherland Day and presented to the veterans, survivors of the Leningrad siege, jubilee medals “80 Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.”
