DECR Communications Service, 03.02.2025.
On February 3, associate professor Alexander A. Andreyev of the Department of Church and Practical Disciplines of the St. Petersburg Theological Academy (Spbda) gave an online lecture on the fasts of the Orthodox Church for students of the Coptic Theological Seminary at the Al-Muharraq Monastery.
Before the lecture, Archpriest Vladimir Khulap, Dean of the Faculty of Theology and Pastoral Sciences and head of the Department of Church and Practical Disciplines of the Spbda greeted the participants of the meeting and said that it continues cooperation between the two educational institutions that began by the St. Petersburg theological school delegation’s visit to Egypt in 2023.
The meeting was also attended by Rev. Basil Samir, a teacher of liturgy at the Al-Muharraq Coptic Theological Seminary.
Mr. Andreyev delivered a lecture in English, in which he spoke about the days of fasting according to the calendar of the Orthodox Church, the practical and liturgical aspects of fasting and the significance of fasting for the spiritual life of a Christian, the Spbda press service reports.
During his speech, the lecturer emphasized that the practice of fasting in the Churches of the Byzantine Rite and the Coptic Orthodox Church has a great deal in common, since it originates from the same ancient tradition.
At the end of the lecture, Mr. Andreyev answered questions from the students of the Coptic seminary.
