Rector of the Moscow Patriarchate parish attends meeting between President of Iceland and representatives of the leading socio-political and religious associations

On January 1, a reception was held at the Bessastaðir official residence of the President of Iceland on the occasion of the Nativity of Christ and the New Year.
The President of Iceland, Hatla Tómasdóttir, and her husband, Björn Skúlason, greeted the leading public and political figures of the country.
At the invitation of the President, archpriest Timofey Zolotusky, rector of the St. Nicholas stavropegic parish of the Moscow Patriarchate in Iceland, and his wife Olga, represented the Orthodox faithful at the reception.
During a brief talk with the presidential couple, archpriest Timofey thanked them for the invitation and noted the importance of preserving traditional family values as a solid basis for upward advancement of society. In token of respect for Icelandic family Christmas customs, Mrs Olga Zolotusky gave Hatla Tómasdóttir traditional homemade pastries.
Also, in advance of the feast, Hatla Tómasdóttir and Björn Skúlason sent written congratulations to the members of the Moscow Patriarchate community in Iceland. Also among those who congratulated the Russian Orthodox parish on the Nativity of Christ and the New Year were chargé d'affaires of the Russian Embassy in the Republic of Iceland Mr. Sergei Andriashin, the mayor of Reykjavik Mr. Einar Thorsteinsson, heads of the local Catholic diocese and the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Iceland.
