On December 26, hegumen Seraphim (Kravchenko), executive secretary of the Synodal Department for Church Charity and Social Ministry of the Russian Orthodox Church, met with Cor-bishop Samano Odisho, rector of the Moscow Assyrian church of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Mat Maryam), who represents the Assyrian Church of the East in Russia.
During the meeting, which took place at the Mat Maryam church, the Cor-bishop and parishioners delivered another consignment of humanitarian aid to victims in conflict zone. It weights 850 kg and consists of detergents and cleaning products, warm clothes, and personal care amenities.
The aid purchased with funds donated by the members of the Assyrian parish will be distributed among the affected civilians in the Kursk region, the Lugansk and Donetsk Republics, Diakonia.ru reports.
Hegumen Seraphim noted that all humanitarian aid distributed through the Russian Orthodox Church will be delivered to the victims on a hand-to-hand basis. The previous consignment of humanitarian aid, collected by the Assyrian parish in October 2024, was handed over to the affected people in the Kursk region.
Cor-bishop Samano Odisho spoke about forward plans for rendering assistance to people in need.
The Russian Orthodox Church has been helping the victims since the first days of the armed conflict. In Russia, the Church has collected, purchased and delivered over 3,900 tons of humanitarian aid to refugees and affected civilians. The church centers for helping people have been opened in Kursk, Belgorod, Donetsk, Mariupol and other cities, where more than 290 thousand people have already received the full measure of aid.
