Patronal feast day celebrated in Iran at the Saint Nicholas Cathedral in Teheran.
Communications Service of the DECR, 21.12.2024.
On 20th December the Russian Orthodox community prayerfully celebrated its patronal feast day at the Saint Nicholas Cathedral in Teheran in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The celebrations for the main feast of the cathedral – Saint Nicholas’ Day – were transferred to Friday, which is an official day off in the country. The Divine Liturgy was celebrated by abbot Varlaam (Dulsky).
All those present in the church received holy communion.
Among the worshippers at the Divine Liturgy were both local parishioners and the staff of the Russian embassy in Teheran. Also attending the church service were the Serbian ambassador to Iran Damir Kovalević and his wife, and the cultural attaché at the Russian embassy Valery Malyshev.
At the end of the service abbot Varlaam delivered a sermon at the end of which he said: “The solemn service in honour of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker has brought us all together around the cup of Christ. May God grant that our community of Saint Nicholas be strengthened and develop, and impart to every parishioner the opportunity to grow spiritually in the Holy Spirit.”
