Russian Orthodox faithful pray in Myra in Lycia on commemoration day of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker

On December 19th, commemoration day of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, Archbishop of Myra in Lycia, Priest Georgy Sergeyev, who is responsible for taking pastoral care of the Moscow Patriarchate’s flock in the territory of the Republic of Türkiye, celebrated the Divine Liturgy in Myra in Lycia (present-day Demre).
Concelebrating with him was Priest Alexy Golovin, who takes pastoral care of the Russian Orthodox Church’s community in Antalya, Marmaris and Fethiye.
During the Litany of Fervent Supplication, the prayer for the Holy Rus’ was read.
Praying at the divine service were over 250 pilgrims from various regions of Turkey.
After the Liturgy, prayers of praise were offered to St. Nicholas.
Father Georgy congratulated all those present on the commemoration day of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker and thanked the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the administration of the museum in Demre for the permission to celebrate the Liturgy. He also expressed gratitude to the Society of the Russian-speaking Orthodox Christians in Antalya Province for assistance in organizing the pilgrimage.
After that, the memorial Litiya was celebrated for Mr Andrei Karlov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Turkey, who had been killed by a terrorist in Ankara on 19th December 2016. Among those who attended the memorial service was Mr A.Ye. Ryumkov, Vice-Consul of the Russian Consulate-General in Antalya.
Those present laid flowers at the monument to Hero of Russia Andrei Karlov located in Demre’s main street named after the Russian diplomat.
