The Albanian Church calls for the repeal of the law banning the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church
A statement published on the official website of the Albanian Orthodox Church emphasized that “as Christmas approaches, calls to end the war in Ukraine are intensifying.”
The Albanian Church reiterated the points made in its statement from August 26, 2024: “Persecutions, imprisonments, desecrations of places of worship, confiscation of property belonging to holy churches and monasteries—these are cruel actions. They become even harsher when imposed by the legislative bodies of democratic countries. The recent law of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, No. 8371, is clearly aimed at abolishing the canonical Orthodox Church of Ukraine.”
Millions of Ukrainian Orthodox believers, numerous bishops, priests, monks, and nuns under the leadership of Metropolitan Onuphry are being persecuted, the statement noted. They are all members of the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church.
“Sharing the suffering of our persecuted brothers, we fervently pray for an end to the ongoing bloodshed, which affects the entire Ukrainian people without exception. We also pray for the repeal of this absurd law, for the restoration of peace, and for the unity of Orthodoxy so that it may continue to fulfill its universal mission,” the Albanian Orthodox Church concluded.
