Patriarchal Exarch of Western Europe attends Notre Dame reopening ceremony
DECR Communication Service, 09/12/2024
In the evening of 7th December 2024, the ceremonial reopening of the restored Notre Dame Cathedral took place in Paris. In 2019, the cathedral was damaged in the devastating fire, and restoration works continued for more than five years.
The ceremony brought together over forty heads of states and governments, including President of France Emmanuel Macron, US President-elect Donald Trump, Prince William of Wales, and President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier. Among those in attendance were French bishops of the Roman Catholic Church and hierarchs of the Local Orthodox Churches present in France.
As the Korsun Diocese website reports, Metropolitan Nestor of Korsun and Western Europe, Patriarchal Exarch of Western Europe, also attended the reopening ceremony at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron and Archbishop Laurent Ulrich of Paris.
