Primate of the Russian Church celebrates Divine Liturgy in the Holy Trinity and St. Sergius Lavra on the commemoration day of St. Sergius of Radonezh

On 8^th October 2024, commemoration day of the Venerable Sergius of Radonezh, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’ celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the Dormition Cathedral of the Holy Trinity and St. Sergius Lavra.

Concelebrating with His Holiness were an assembly of hierarchs and clergy of the Russian Orthodox Church, as well as representatives of other Local Orthodox Churches – Bishop Stefan of Remesiana, representative of the Serbian Patriarch to the Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus’, and Archimandrite Feoktist (Dimitrov), representative of the Bulgarian Patriarch to the Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus’.

Numerous bishops, abbesses, clergymen, monks, nuns and pilgrims who had arrived in the Holy Trinity and St. Sergius Lavra to take part in the celebrations were praying at the divine service in the Holy Dormition Cathedral.

Attending the Patriarchal Liturgy were also Mr S.A. Pakhomov, chairman of the State Duma Committee for Construction and Housing; Ms Ye.O. Serova, cosmonaut and State Duma deputy; Mr S.G. Malyshev, First Vice-President — CFO at PJSC MMC Norilsk Nickel; Mr V.A. Levin, acting general director of “Sofrino” Art Production Enterprise; and Mr I.S. Kharkov, head of “Apostol” Jewellery Workshop.

Traditionally, on that day hierarchical divine services were celebrated in other churches of the Lavra. Officiating at the Liturgy in the Holy Trinity Cathedral was Metropolitan Varsonofy of St. Petersburg and Ladoga; in St. Sergius Refectory Church – Metropolitan Pavel of Krutitsy and Kolomna, Patriarchal vicar for the Moscow Metropolia; in the Church of the Descent of the Holy Spirit – Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Department for External Church Relations; in the Intercession Church of the Moscow Theological Academy – Metropolitan Yevgeny of Yekaterinburg and Verkhoturye, chairman of the Synodal Department for Religious Education and Catechization; in the Church of St. John Climacus of the Moscow Theological Seminary – Metropolitan Vikenty of Tashkent and Uzbekistan, head of the Central Asia Metropolitan District; in the Chernigovsky Skete – Metropolitan Nikon of Astrakhan and Kamyzyak, patriarchia.ru reports.
