Church of St. Sergius Church in Johannesburg is granted the status of a cathedral of the South African diocese

On October 6, the 15th Sunday after Pentecost, Metropolitan Konstantin of Zaraisk, Patriarchal Exarch of Africa, officiated at the patronal feast in the Church of St. Sergius of Radonezh in Johannesburg, the Republic of South Africa (RSA). Yesternight, he celebrated the All-night Vigil.
The archpastor was assisted at the Liturgy by archpriest Daniil Lugovoy, dean of the South African diocese in the RSA and rector of the church of St. Sergius; and Rev. Jacob Smats, a cleric of the diocese.
The service was celebrated in Church Slavonic, Afrikaans and English, website of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa reports.
A prayer service and a procession of the cross were held after the dismissal. At the end of the divine service, the glorification of St. Sergius was celebrated and Many Years was proclaimed.
After that, Metropolitan Konstantin read out the decree of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus' on granting the church of St. Sergius the status of a cathedral of the South African Diocese of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa.
The hierarch addressed the words of welcome to the rector and parishioners and congratulated them on the patronal feast and festal event.
Also, he presented Mr. V.N. Zelenyuk, an active parishioner and benefactor, with a blessed charter on the occasion of his 60th birthday.
