His Holiness Patriarch Daniel calls upon believers to pray for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church
DECR Communication Service, 29/08/2024
“Let us beseech the Lord to strengthen our brothers and sisters from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, enlighten the state leaders, grant peace to the Ukrainian land,” His Holiness Patriarch Daniel of Bulgaria said in his Primatial homily after the Liturgy celebrated in the Church of St. John of Rila in Pernik town, Bulgaria, on August 26, 2024.
Talking to journalists later that day, the Primate of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church dwelt on the plight of the canonical Church in Ukraine, Bulgarian National Radio reports.
“The Ukrainian Rada has adopted a law providing for the closure of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which is the only canonical Orthodox Church in the country,” His Holiness said, “As is well known, eleven out of the fifteen Local Orthodox Churches did not recognize the ecclesiastical body created in 2019 – the so-called “OCU” (Orthodox Church in Ukraine), that is to say, it is not a canonical church. And when the state passes the law on the closure of the canonical Church, what will be left?”
