Patronal Feast of Russian Church’s Metochion in Belgrade marked by Hierarchical Liturgy
DECR Communication Service, 26/06/2024
On 24th June 2024, the Day of the Holy Spirit, with the blessing of His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Porfirije, Bishop Dositej of Lipljan, Patriarchal Vicar, officiated at the Divine Liturgy in the Church of the Holy Trinity – Metochion of the Russian Orthodox Church in Belgrade, Serbia, which celebrated its patronal feast on that day. Concelebrating with the archpastor were Protosingel Ilija (Buha); Archpriest Vitaly Tarasyev, rector of the Holy Trinity Church – Metochion of the Russian Orthodox Church in Belgrade; Archpriest Branislav Borota and Priest Aleksandar Lučić, clerics of the Cathedral of the Holy Apostle Mark in Belgrade; Priest Miodrag Nešić; Protodeacon Stevan Rapajić; and Deacon Nikola Masnikos.
Among those who attended the Liturgy were Mr Nenad Popović, minister without portfolio in the Government of the Republic of Serbia; Mr Marco Nikolić, assistant director of the Administration for Relations with Churches and Religious Communities in the Government of the Republic of Serbia; and Mr Miroslav Ivanović, president of the Palilula City Municipality.
During the divine service, prayers were offered for “all those in suffering, confessing Christ in Ukraine, Syria, Palestine, Kosovo and Metohija in Serbia and all over the world.”
After the Liturgy, Father Vitaly Tarasyev thanked Bishop Dositej for leading the celebrations on the feast day and asked him to convey his gratitude to His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije for taking spiritual care of the Russian Orthodox Church’s Metochion in Belgrade – a place towards which many people gravitate, including the Russians who have found themselves in the Serbian land. “Every day we glorify the Holy Trinity and invoke the Holy Spirit, giving thanks to God for granting unto us wisdom and spiritual strength. We give thanks to our Lord Jesus Christ Who beseeched His Heavenly Father to send the Holy Spirit to the entire humankind and thus establish the Church of God,” the rector of the Metochion said.
To prayerfully commemorate the divine service, Father Vitaly presented to Bishop Dositej an icon of the Holy Trinity.
In his archastoral homily, Bishop Dositej emphasized the importance of strengthening the unity of the Church which is suffering great attacks nowadays. Orthodox Christians need to be wise and to not let the devil deceive them, remaining faithful children of the Church and seeking salvation within its fold, the hierarch added.
The Divine Liturgy was followed by a reception.
