On May 22, the day of the transfer of the relics of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker from Myra in Lycia to the city of Bari, matins and the Divine Liturgy were celebrated at the Church of the Holy Martyr Ignatius the God-Bearer — the Metochion of the Russian Orthodox Church in Damascus. By the blessing of His Beatitude Patriarch John of Great Antioch and All the East, the Liturgy was led by Bishop Roman of Seleucia, the chief secretary of the Holy Synod of the Antiochian Orthodox Church, joined by Archimandrite Philip (Vasilytsev), the rector of the Metochion, as well as Archpriest Fida Jabbour and Archpriest Jacob.
The service was conducted in Church Slavonic and Arabic. During the fervent supplication litany, special petitions were offered, and the rector of the Metochion read a prayer for the Holy Rus', reports the website of the Metochion of the Russian Orthodox Church in Damascus.
After the dismissal of the Divine Liturgy, Bishop Roman congratulated Archimandrite Philip and the parishioners of the Metochion and conveyed the blessing of His Beatitude Patriarch John. Bishop Roman also asked to convey greetings to His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus'.
In his response, Archimandrite Philip warmly welcomed Bishop Roman and asked him to convey words of deep filial gratitude to His Beatitude Patriarch John for his attention and care for the Metochion of the Russian Orthodox Church. As a memento of the service, the rector of the Metochion presented Bishop Roman with a decorated cross, sanctified on the relics of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker.
After the service, Bishop Roman visited the Children's Prosthetics and Rehabilitation Center at the Metochion of the Russian Orthodox Church.
