DECR Chairman arrives in Azerbaijan

On the 29^th of April 2024, with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’, Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, arrived in the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku, to participate in an international conference of religious leaders on "Building Trust through Interreligious Dialogue". Among the participants of the event will be leaders and representatives of traditional religions from different countries of the world, representatives of the UN Alliance of Civilisations and international religious organisations.

On the day of his arrival, the archpastor met with Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazadeh, Chairman of the Religious Council of the Caucasus and Head of the Baku Centre for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue. Archimandrite Philaret (Bulekov), Deputy Chairman of the DECR, and Priest Nikolai Vasin, Secretary of the DECR Chairman, had also taken part in the meeting on behalf of the Russian Orthodox Church.

Metropolitan Anthony conveyed warm greetings of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’ to the leader of the Muslim community of Azerbaijan. The parties discussed a wide range of issues of interreligious co-operation, peacemaking efforts of religious communities, interethnic and international relations.
