DECR Communication Service, 12.02.2024.
On the 8th of February, with the blessing of Archbishop Theophan of Korea, Hieromonk Pavel (Choi), a cleric of the Korean Diocese, took part in the commemorative events organised by the Russian Embassy in the Republic of Korea.
Together with the staff of the Russian foreign missions, Hieromonk Pavel honoured the memory of the Russian sailors of the cruiser "Varyag" and the gunboat "Koreets" who fought an unequal battle against the Japanese squadron in the bay of the port of Chemulpo in the early days of the Russo-Japanese War.
On the same day, according to tradition, together with the Embassy staff, Father Paul visited the Yangwajin City Missionary Cemetery in Seoul, where Russian compatriots who lived in Korea in the early twentieth century are buried. A requiem service was performed at the grave of a Russian diplomat S.V. Chirkin, who served in the Russian Imperial Mission in 1911-1914, reports the telegram channel of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Southeast Asia.
On the eve of the Diplomatic Worker's Day, Father Pavel, together with the diplomats, visited the site of the former Russian Imperial Mission in Seoul, and also took part in a reception on the occasion of the holiday held at the Russian Embassy in the Republic of Korea.
