DECR Communication Service, 12/01/2024
On 11th January 2024, Mr Nikolai Fyodorovich Mankov, a retired staff member of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, who had devoted over 60 years of his life to faithfully serving the Church, passed away at the age of 82.
Nikolai Mankov was born in Moscow on 29th April 1941 into a working-class family. After school he enrolled in the Moscow Theological Seminary, which he graduated from in 1963. During his seminary years he served as a sub-deacon to Archbishop Nikodim (Rotov) of Yaroslavl and Rostov, back then the DECR chairman.
For almost sixty years – from 20th May 1963 to 21st September 2020 – he worked at the Department for External Church Relations in various positions, including storage facilities supervisor.
Over the years of his work, he received various high church awards, such as the Order of the Right-Believing Prince Vladimir, 3rd class; the Order of St. Sergius of Radonezh, 3rd class; the Order of the Right-Believing Prince Daniel of Moscow, 3rd class; and the Medals of St. Seraphim of Sarov, 1st class, and of St. Sergius of Radonezh, 1st class.
“Nikolai Fyodorovich was a diligent and responsible worker who conscientiously performed his duties, which helped him earn respect of the DECR chairmen and staff members,” Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Department for External Church Relations, wrote in his message of condolences, “I have very warm memories of my meetings with Nikolai Fyodorovich and will always remember him as a devout Christian whose actions were invariably guided by genuine love and care for others.”
May Nikolai Fyodorovich Mankov’s memory be eternal!
