DECR Communication Service, 16.08.2023.
The Primate of the Assyrian Church of the East, His Holiness Catholicos-Patriarch Mar Awa III, during his meeting with a delegation of the Russian Orthodox Church and Russian Federation Consul General M. O. Rubin on August 7 in Erbil, Iraq, expressed profound concern over the situation in Ukraine and more frequent facts of the discrimination of the clergy and faithful of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
The head of the Assyrian Christians said that he “is following with alarm the latest developments around the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra” and “worrying about the life of Metropolitan Jonathan of Tulchin and Bratslav”.
“The news coming from the Ukrainian land are echoing with a keen pain in my heart. Together with my fellow archpastors, clergy and faithful, we express and will express the profound and heart-felt solidarity with my beloved brother His Holiness Patriarch Kirill as well as the spiritual head of the Ukrainian Orthodox people, Metropolitan Onufriy and the whole flock faithful to him”, noted in particular the Catholicos-Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East.
