Texts of the Conference of the Synodal Biblical Theological Commission on World Orthodoxy: Primacy and Sobornost in the Light of the Orthodox Faith, that took place on 16-17 September 2021, have been published by the Publishing House "Poznanie".
The work opens with an opening address by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia. In his address, His Holiness pointed out that the situation in the family of the Orthodox Churches reflects the crisis that has gripped it. This crisis has various aspects, one of the most significant being the threat to Orthodoxy: "As the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church, who is obliged to take care of the preservation and strengthening of relations with all the Local Orthodox Churches, I cannot but feel personal pain at what is happening in our relations with the Patriarchate of Constantinople and with those Churches which have been dragged by it into recognizing the so-called autocephalous
Ukrainian Church, which in fact represents nothing less than the legitimization of a church schism."
According to the website of the Publishing House "Poznanie", the book includes reports by foreign and domestic patrologists, theologians and historians of the Church on a wide range of issues related to the current state of affairs in the Local Orthodox Churches: understanding the World Orthodoxy, primacy and synodality, the relationship of the canonical structure of the Church with the activities of Church administration, etc.
The book will help to deepen knowledge of patristics, Church history, dogmatic theology, Christian anthropology, as well as to train students of theological, historical-philosophical, historical, cultural and religious studies.
The publication was edited by Metropolitan Hilarion of Budapest and Hungary, Chairman of the Synodal Biblical Theological Commission, with the financial support of the non-profit organisation "Charity for the Support of Christian Culture and Heritage".
