DECR Communication Service, 09.02.2023.
On February 5, the day of the Synaxis of New Martyrs and Confessors of the Church, in the Church-Monument-on-Blood in Yekaterinburg, the solemn Liturgy was celebrated. Among the participants in the Liturgy were representatives of several Local Orthodox Churches at the Moscow Patriarchal See.
Together with Metropolitan Yevgeny of Yekaterinburg and Verkhoturye, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated by Metropolitan Niphon of Philippopolis, representative of the Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, and Bishop Feodosy of Nizhniy Tagil and Nevyansk. They were assisted by an assembly of clergy including the representative of the Orthodox Church of the Czech Lands and Slovakia to the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, Archimandrite Seraphim (Shemyatovski) and the representative of the Orthodox Church in America to the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, Archpriest Daniel Andreyuk.
During the prayer for the repose of the dead, mention was made of all the names of those who were tortured to death and who died in the years of severe persecutions by atheists.
After the prayerful singing, which concluded the solemn service, Metropolitan Niphon of Philippopolis addressed the worshippers. He thanked Metropolitan Yevgeny ‘for the joy of praying together, which re-affirmed the unity and brotherly love’. He also conveyed congratulations to the representatives of Local Churches who attended the service.
Metropolitan Yevgeny thanked His Eminence Niphon, Archimandrite Seraphim and Archpriest Daniel Andreyuk for participation in the solemn Liturgy and expressed the wish that ‘our nations be filled with great love and that upheavals and disorders may be stopped and that we all may be united in the love of Christ’.
In his archpastoral homily, the head of the Metropolis of Yekaterinburg reminded the congregation of the meaning of the lives of new martyrs and confessors and said how important it is for people living today to collate their lives with theirs’s.
