DECR chairman participates in general assembly of Russian commission for UNESCO

On 20th December there took place the customary general assembly of the Russian commission for UNESCO affairs under the chairmanship of the Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov.
The event was attended by leaders of the prominent Russian ministries and departments, the heads of subjects of the Russian Federation, and representatives of Russian business circles, science, culture, journalism and sport. Among the participants was the chairman of the Department of External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate the metropolitan of Volokolamsk Anthony.
Mr. Lavrov gave a presentation on the present-day level of cooperation between Russia and UNESCO. The minister, in particular, put positive emphasis on the fact that in December the International Forum for the fiftieth anniversary of the Convention for the Protection of the World’s Cultural and Natural Heritage took place in Saint Petersburg and Kazan, as well as noting a number of the more salient directions that cooperation with the humanitarian organization may take.
Aside from this, there were presentations given by the state councilor of the Republic of Tatarstan and UNESCO good-will ambassador M. Sh. Shaimiev, the chairman of the Russian committee for bio-ethics, Russian academician A. G. Chuchalin and the secretary general of the Assembly of the Peoples of Eurasia non-commercial organization A. Yu. Belyaninov.
The general assembly agreed the basic outlines of the Commission’s work for 2023, reports the Russian foreign ministry site.
