The DECR Chairman expressed condolences on the death of the Primate of the Eritrean Church

Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, addressed the Holy Synod of the Eritrean Church in connection with the death of Patriarch Abune Kerlos of the Eritrean Church.

The message reads as follows:

To the Holy Synod
of the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church

Your Eminences and Your Graces,

Please accept my condolences over the passing away of His Holiness Patriarch Abune Kerlos.

The departed Primate took the helm of the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church in turbulent times of change, both in Africa and all over the world. His Patriarchal term was short, but marked by such important events as, in particular, the resumption of the Eritrean Church’s relations with the family of the Oriental Churches and the entire Christendom, including the Moscow Patriarchate. We hope that our cooperation will continue in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ (Eph 5:20).

May the Almighty God give rest to the soul of the deceased in the dwellings of the righteous and make his memory eternal!
