The DECR chairman meets with His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia

On November 10, a meeting took place at the Serbian Patriarchate in Belgrade between His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia and the Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, who had come to the Serbian capital on a working visit with a blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia.

Attending the meeting were also Bishop Irinej of Bac; Bishop Sava of Morca, Patriarchal Vicar; Archpriest Nikolay Balashov, adviser to the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia; Archpriest Vitaly Tarasvjev, rector of the Belgrade Representation of the Russian Orthodox Church; Archpriest Igor Yakimchuk, DECR acting vice-chairman; Rev. Alexander Ershov, secretary to the DECR chairman; and E. I. Skopenko, executive director of the Foundation for Support of Christian Culture and Heritage.

In a warm atmosphere of mutual understanding, the sides discussed the situation in the Orthodox world, the state of relations between the Russian and the Serbian Orthodox churches, prospects for their further development and other matters of mutual concern.

His Holiness Porfirije and Metropolitan Anthony exchanged tokens of the meeting.

After the meeting, a grand dinner was given in honour of the delegation of the Russian Orthodox Church.
