A pilgrimage to the church of the Holy Apostle Peter in Bradwell-on-Sea (7th century)

On Saturday, July 9, 2022, believers fr om parishes of the Diocese of Sourozh in Romford, Southgate, Cambridge and some Orthodox residents of Norwich, in total about 40 people, made a joint pilgrimage to the church of St. Peter the Apostle in Bradwell-on-Sea, in Essex.

The church was built by St. Cedd of Lastingham, Bishop of Wessex, in the 7th century, on the ruins of the Roman fort of Othona and served as a center for additional missionary activity among the East Saxon people.

With the blessing of His Grace Bishop Matthew of Sourozh, archpriest Joseph Skinner, Dean of the Diocesan District of South West England, celebrated the Divine Liturgy in one of the oldest churches that have survived in the Great Britain to our time. Liturgical hymns were performed by a combined choir of singers under the direction of Sarah Elizabeth Skinner.

After the Liturgy, a common meal was held, after which the pilgrims returned to the church, wh ere an akathist to St. Cedd was served.

Lyudmila Yekimchenkova introduced the pilgrims to the details of the life of the Apostle of Essex.
