A new church of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church consecrated in Volyn instead of the one captured by schismatics

A new church of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church dedicated to Great Martyr George the Conqueror was consecrated in the Peski village, Gorokhov district, Volyn region, on October 3, 2021. It has been built in place of the St. George church captured by schismatics in 2019, reports the Volyn Diocese Press Service.

The Office of the Consecration of the Altar and the first Divine Liturgy were celebrated by Archbishop Nafanail of Volyn and Lutsk. His Eminence was assisted by Archpriest Dimitry Petrushchak, dean of the Berestechko church district; Archpriest Bogdan Khristinets, rector of the parish; Archimandrite Paisiy (Khomich), chancellor of the Diocese of Volyn; and the visiting clergy.

With a blessing of His Beatitude Onufriy, Metropolitan of Kiev and All Ukraine, Archpriest Bogdan Khristinets was awarded the right to celebrate the Divine Liturgy with the open gate until the Hymn of Cherubim.

Mr. Andrey Biba, a patron of the construction, was awarded the Medal of Our Lady of Volyn. The parishioners, who had taken an active part in the construction of the new worship facility, were presented with diocesan diplomas.

The St. George church at the Peski village had been captured by the schismatic “Orthodox Church of Ukraine” on February 16, 2019. Left without a church, the community of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church did not ceased to exist: the faithful assembled for worship in its rector’s garage equipped as a church.
