Metropolitan Hilarion calls voters to be guided by the voice of their conscience
Only a week remains until the elections to Russia’s State Duma. “Each one who is going to vote should first of all determine for oneself which political leader, which political party one likes and make one’s choice in accordance with the voice of one’s conscience”, believes Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk who shared his opinion concerning this important event in the life of the country with the presenter of the Church and the World TV program, Ms. Ye. Gracheva.
The hierarch reminded the audience that the Russian Orthodox Church does not participate in political struggle. “We never tell our faithful to vote for a particular party”, he stressed.
“We try to remind people of only one thing. It is that we as a Church are interested in the stability of our state, in the preservation of civic, inter-confessional, inter-ethnic peace”, His Eminence noted adding that the efforts of particular political and social forces aimed to preserve peace will meet with approval from the Church.
