The chairman of the Department of External Church Relations meets with the former US ambassador-at-large for religious freedom and other representatives

On 14th July 2021 the chairman of the Department of External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate the metropolitan of Volokolamsk Hilarion meet in the US capital with the former US ambassador-at-large for religious freedom Sam Brownback. The meeting took place in the context of the international summit for religious freedom.
During the discussion, which lasted for an hour, a wide range of issues were touched upon concerning the persecution of Christians in various parts of the world, including the Middle East and a number of African countries.
The sides exchanged opinions concerning mutual interaction in the sphere of defending religious freedom between the Russian Orthodox Church and American religious organizations. Ambassador Brownback remarked that the voice of the Russian Orthodox Church should be heard in American society.
The sides agreed to continue consultations, including in an offline regime.
On the same day the chairman of the DECR had meetings with the ice president of the Billy Graham Evangelical Association Viktor Gamm, congressman Jim Slattery, German Bundestag deputy Waldemar Herdt, the organizer of the national prayer breakfast in the US Doug Burley, the president of media company Trans World Radio Lauren Libby and the leader of the Pulse Christian organization Nick Holm.
Metropolitan Hilarion was accompanied by DECR colleague Philip Champion and subdeacon Vyacheslav Li.
