DECR chairman meets with Qatar’s ambassador to Russia

On July 1, 2021, DECR chairman Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk received Mr. Ahmed Bin
Nasser Al-Thani, Qatar’s ambassador to the Russian Federation, who has recently entered upon the
responsibilities of his office. The meeting took place at the Department for External Church
Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate.

Present from the Qatar’s side were also Mr. Abdulrahman Saleh Al-Kuwari and Mr. Abdulaziz
Ahmed Al-Mulla, third secretaries of the embassy. From the DECR side, there was Rev. Dimitry
Safonov, secretary for interreligious relations.

Among the issues discussed was the work of the Doha International Center on Interfaith Dialogue
(DICID). Metropolitan Hilarion told the guests about his meeting in March 2018 with the DICID
head, Dr Ibrahim Nuaimi. They also discussed ways of overcoming extremism disguised under
religious slogans and opposing terrorism and oppression of religious minorities. They also
considered other aspects of cooperation.
In conclusion of the meeting the sides came to consensus on the need to continue cooperation.
