Parishioners of the church captured by ‘OCU’ raiders will pray at its walls
region, Ukraine, with a blessing of Metropolitan Varsonofy of Vinnitsa and Bar will hold a prayer
vigil at the walls of their church captured by the ‘OCU’ raiders.
The St. Nicholas church of the canonical Church at the Shevchenkovo village was captured in
December 2018 when the community was headed by the late Archpriest Vasily Sabov.
On June 30, 2021, the persecuted community was visited by Metropolitan Varsonofy who blessed
their prayer vigil. His Eminence together with priests conducted a prayer service ‘before a good
work’ at the church’s walls.
“The faithful wish to pray in their own church. However, unlike the ‘OCU’ representatives, they do
not capture it by force. With a blessing of Metropolitan Varsonofy, the faithful will prayer next to the
church”, reports the website of the Diocese of Vinnitsa.
The hierarch appointed Archpriest George Kholod as temporary administrator of the Shevchenkovo
community. The ruling bishop wished the villagers God’s help in their vigil for the canonical Church
and in memory of the meeting, he distributed icons with his archpastoral blessing.
