75th anniversary of the Russian Orthodox diocese of Argentina is celebrated in Buenos Aires

On 27th June 2021, the 1st Sunday after Pentecost and the Sunday of All Saints, a solemn divine service was celebrated at the Church of St. Alexander Nevsky in Buenos Aires, Argentina, to mark the 75th anniversary of the Diocese of Argentina of the Russian Orthodox Church.

The festive liturgy was celebrated by Bishop John of Caracas and South America, the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, and Bishop Leonid of Argentina and South America, the Russian Orthodox Church. Clerics of both dioceses assisted.

Attending the Divine Liturgy were Mr. Oleg Kolomin, cultural attaché and the first secretary of the Embassy of the Russian Federation to the Argentine Republic, and Mr. Alexei Lebedev, interim head of the representation of Rossotrudnichestvo (Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States Affairs, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation) in Argentina.

The divine service was celebrated in the Church Slavonic and Spanish languages.

A prayer for the deliverance from pernicious infection was offered up after the Litany of Fervent Supplication, and the glorification of the feast was recited after the dismissal.

Bishop Leonid of Argentina and South America delivered a sermon, saying:

“A diocese consists not only of churches, premises for prayer, hierarchs and clerics, but also of people who love God, church, prayer and divine services. There have been a great many achievements for seventy-five years, which would have been impossible without good relations with the Embassy of the Russian Federation to the Argentine Republic, Russian embassies to the countries of our diocese’s canonical responsibility, organizations of our compatriots, and local authorities, as well as without our long-held brotherly relations with the Local Orthodox Churches in the region. Cooperation among the Church, governmental and non-governmental structures has brought good fruits; the seeds of the Gospel of Christ are being sown throughout South America. We wholeheartedly thank our Primate – His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia for his prayers and paternal care for the largest and most distant diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church. I am grateful to all people in it, both selfless pastors and God-loving people.”

Mr. Oleg Kolomin and Mr. Alexei Lebedev greeted the worshippers, congratulated Bishop Leonid on the 75th anniversary of the Diocese of Argentina, wishing it prosperity, and expressed hope for fruitful cooperation in the future.

‘Many Years’ was proclaimed to His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church, and all its faithful.
