Festive liturgy celebrated at the place of the Ascension of the Lord
On June 10, the feast of the Ascension of the Lord, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Mount Eleon, the place of the Ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The service was presided over by Archbishop Aristovoulos of Madaba (Patriarchate of Jerusalem). Among the worshipers weere His Beatitude Theophilos III, Patriarch of the Holy City of Jerusalem and All Palestine. After the service, His Beatitude, according to tradition, visited the Eleon Convent of the Ascensions of the Lord (ROCOR) and greeted its sisters and clergy on the festive occasion.
With a blessing of the head of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem, Archimandrite Alexander (Elisov), Hieromonk Afanasy (Bukin), the treasurer of the REM, took part in the service of the Church of Jerusalem.
On the festive day, the head of the Mission presided over the liturgy at the main church of the Russian Orthodox presence in the Holy Land – the Cathedral of the Trinity in Jerusalem. Hegumen Nikon (Golovko), Hieromonk Dometian (Markarian) and Deacon Ilia Drachuk concelebrated. After the dismissal, the clergy sang a praise to the feast, after which Archimandrite Alexander addressed himself to the numerous worshipers with a homily.
