Online course on liturgics is held in the Diocese of Berlin and Germany

The church of St. Barbara the Great Martyr in Krefeld, Germany, held online course on liturgics for people assisting in the sanctuary and for parishioners wishing to have a deeper insight into spiritual treasure of the Orthodox divine services. Attending the course that was held from 28 th December 2020 to 20 th May 2021 were over 100 persons from 34 Orthodox parishes in Germany and representatives of the parishes from Russia, Ukraine and Denmark. The programme, the reading list and video footage are available on the website of the Orthodox Education Centre.

Considered at the first course unit on “Liturgical time, Books and Texts” were daily, weekly and yearly liturgical cycles and the related church books and prayers. The participants were introduced to the history and contents of the Typikon and learned to understand the terms used in the ecclesiastical calendar and liturgical instructions.

The second course unit was dedicated to the divine services during Lent and Eastertide. Some lessons were held as openly shared meetings invited to which were all wishing to attend. Comments on the selected liturgical texts were made at the meetings, while the Typikon was the topic of focus at the online lessons.

The lessons were held at the venue of Zoom programme; visual materials were displayed; synopsis and issue-related texts were added. The learnt material was discussed at the end of both course units.

The third unit “The All-Night Vigil Service. The Hours” will start on September 30, 2021. Those wishing to attend must achieve mastery of the first two units by themselves. In order to receive the issue-related texts by email, they should contact a course teacher.
