Syrian children in Deraa province receive aid from Representation of the Russian Orthodox Church in Damascus

The Representation of the Russian Orthodox Church in Damascus took part in the humanitarian action in Deraa province, Syria. Children hit by hostilities received wheelchairs bought by the Canadian benefactor Patrick Benoît.

Thanks to Russian negotiators, opposition armed units in Deraa laid down their weapons in 2018 in the process of reconciliation, but hotbeds of tension remain. People need bare essentials in the aftermath of war and international sanctions that are thwarting the economic recovery.

The families of the victims, teachers and health care workers received food packages and essential medicines from the All-Russia Public Organization of Veterans “Battle Brotherhood.” Among aid recipients were also Orthodox Christians residing in Deraa.
