Russian Orthodox Church to be given a plot of land for building a church in Madrid
The patrons board of the Holy Nativity Foundation, set up to finance the construction of a Russian Orthodox church in Madrid, held a meeting in Madrid. Presumably in early July a set of documents will be signed giving the Russian Church a 756 square meter-plot of land for usage in a prestigious area in northern Madrid, the website of the Patriarch of the Nativity of Christ has reported.
The meeting was attended by Archbishop Innokenty of Korsun, Archbishop Mark of Yegoryevsk, Moscow Patriarchate secretary for institutions abroad; Grand Duchess Maria Vladimirovna, head of the Russian Imperial Family; Russian Ambassador to Madrid A. Kuznetsov, architect A. Vorontsov, architect Jesus San Vicente from the Spanish side, and lawyer Angel Martin Santiago.
The patrons board met at the plot intended for the construction of a church and continued their talk at the Russian embassy. ‘The problem of the allocation of land has been actually settled to the credit of all who are present here today’, Rev. Andrey Kordochkin, rector of the church of the Nativity of Christ in Madrid said, opening the meeting. Father Andrey thanked every participant in the meeting for personal participation in the project. The meeting also discussed the design of the church, the foundation stone ceremony and the financing of the construction.
