Primates of the Local Orthodox Churches consecrate Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Podgorica
The Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ was consecrated in Podgorica, Montenegro, on 7 October 2013.
Taking part in the consecration and in the Divine Liturgy were Primates and representatives of the Local Orthodox Churches who attend the celebration of the 1700th anniversary of the Edict of Milan.
President Filip Vujanović of Montenegro, other representatives of state authorities, public and cultural figures, diplomats, including Ambassador Andrei Nesterenko of Russia to Montenegro, representatives of the Roman Catholic Church, the Armenian Apostolic Church and other non-Orthodox communities attended.
It was raining, but many people gathered in the cathedral square.
After the divine service, His Holiness Patriarch Irinej, His Holiness Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople and His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia addressed the worshippers.
Patriarch Kirill thanked Patriarch Irinej for the invitation to take part in the celebrations and called all those gathered to keep the Orthodox faith through which our salvation is affected.
Standing at the church porch, the Primates released white doves into the sky and then planted olive trees in commemoration of the celebration. This was the last item on the agenda of His Holiness Kirill’s visit to the Serbian Orthodox Church. Seeing off the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church and his suite at Golubovci airport were Ambassador Nesterenko of Russia, Ambassador Chushev of Belarus, and hierarchs of clerics of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
