Meeting of the Standing Committee of the WCC Faith and Order Commission
The Standing Committee of the Faith and Order Commission of the World Council of Churches met on March 18-22, 2014 at the Bose Monastery, Italy.
It was the last meeting of the commission members elected after the WCC General Assembly in February 2006 in Porto Alegre, Brazil.
The committee summed up its work carried out for the last seven years and considered the results of the WCC Assembly which took place in November 2013 in Busan, South Korea, in the part concerning the results and prospects of the commission.
The committee drafted recommendations for the next membership of the Faith and Order Commission, stating that it was desirable to continue working in the area of ecclesiology and morality and making a special emphasis on the need for further work on the sources of authority in the Church. This project was initiated by Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Moscow Patriarchate’s department for external church relations and chairman of the ROC Synodal Biblical-Theological Commission.
The Standing Committee of the WCC Faith and Order Commission consists of 30 members representing Local Orthodox churches, the Roman Catholic Church and various Protestant denominations.
Metropolitan Hilarion was represented at the meeting by Archpriest Vladimir Shmaliy, secretary of the ROC Synodal Biblical-Theological Commission and pro-rector of the ROC’s Ss Cyril and Methodius Institute of Post-Graduate Studies.
