Orthodox faithful in Dusseldorf venerate miracle-working Kursk Icon of Our Lady-in-the-Roots

On May 18, 2014, the Samaritan Woman, the Kursk Icon of Our Lady-in-the-Roots “The Sign”, the Hodegitria of the Russian Diaspora, was brought to the church of the Protecting Veil of the Mother of God in Dusseldorf.

Numerous Orthodox faithful from nearby cities and parishes flocked in on that day to the church of the Protecting Veil to venerate after the Divine Liturgy the miracle-working Icon of the Most Holy Mother of God. The icon, which these days is visiting Russian Orthodox parishes in Germany, has been brought to Dusseldorf by clergy from the Russian Orthodox parishes in Cologne, including Rev. Alexander Kalinsky of the Parish of St. Panteleimon, the German diocese of the Russian Church Outside Russia, and Rev. Victor Yakim of the Parish of Ss Constantine and Helen Equal-to-the-Apostles, Russian Orthodox Church diocese of Berlin and Germany.

Accompanied by the singing of Theotokions, the Icon of Our Lady of Kursk was solemnly met by the worshipers and clergy of the church of the Protecting Veil. A thanksgiving with the blessing of water was celebrated with the reading of the akathistos. Among the worshippers was Archbishop Longin of Klin, representative of the Russian Orthodox Church in Germany.

Later that day, the miracle-working icon was taken to the Russian Orthodox Parish of the Holy Protomartyr George the Victorious in the city of Bochum, the press service of the ROC Permanent Representation in Germany reports.
