A Center for Orthodox Culture Studies to be established in Shanghai
On June 11, 2014, an agreement on the establishment of a Center for Orthodox Culture Studies at the Shanghai University of Foreign Languages was signed in a solemn ceremony in Shanghai between the University and the Patriarchal Council for Culture.
The protocol of understanding was signed by Prof. Zao De Min, rector of the University, and Archimandrite Tikhon (Shevkunov), executive secretary of the Patriarch Council for Culture. Present at the ceremony were professors and numerous students and post-graduates.
The task of the Shanghai Center is the study of traditional Russian culture, organization of academic work, publication of books, including a Chinese-Russian Biblical Dictionary and a Dictionary of Orthodox Terms, exchange of students and post-graduates, conduct of seminars and conferences as well as lecture courses for students and post-graduates in China and Russia.
The University’s department for the Russian language and literature proposed to translate Achimandrite Tikhon’s book “Unholy Saints and Other Stories” into Chinese, and an appropriate agreement on the translation and publication of the book was signed.
