The Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Medvedev, sent to His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia the following telegram with condolences over the demise of His Beatitude Metropolitan Vladimir of Kiev and All Ukraine:
Your Holiness:
It was with a grief that I learnt about the demise of His Beatitude Vladimir, Metropolitan of Kiev and All Ukraine.
During many years of his responsible ministry His Beatitude Metropolitan Vladimir had done a lot for the unity of the Russian Orthodox Church and the entire Orthodox world, for the strengthening of the authority of the Church, and for the revival of spiritual and moral values and the great traditions of Orthodoxy.
For over twenty years he was supporting the believers in Ukraine. As the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Metropolitan Vladimir contributed to the development of inter-confessional dialogue and constructive cooperation of the Church with the state and society. He won true love and respect of his flock of many millions. His demise is the great loss for the whole Orthodox world and for all of us.
Please accept my sincere condolences.
