A wooden church of Holy Myrrh-Bearing Women consecrated in Hamburg
On August 30, a church dedicated to the Holy Myrrh-Bearing Women was consecrated in Hamburg. The wooden church together with the whole church compound including a park, a large reverence cross, a carved gate and a children’s playground, was blessed by Archbishop Feofan of Berlin and Germany. Participating in the celebrations was Schema-Archimandrite Iliy (Nozdrin), spiritual father of the Optina Hermitage.
Archbishop Feofan congratulated the congregation on the acquiring of a new beautiful church. He noted that the Orthodox people in Hamburg already have a remarkable cathedral in the center of the city and now they have a small and cosy wooden church built in Old Russian style.
He thanked Father Iliy and all his concelebrants for their participation in common prayer. He expressed special gratitude to the donators and volunteer workers who contributed to the construction of this church in an Orthodox cemetery being arranged in Hamburg.
Now regular divine services will be celebrated in the new church, the website of the Orthodox cemetery in Hamburg reports. Each Saturday the liturgy and requiem service will be celebrated in Church Slavonic. On Sundays, the German-speaking Orthodox community of Ss Cyril and Methodius will gather together in the church.
