Church of Holy Forefathers in Hebron celebrates its patronal feast
On 22 October 2014, the commemoration day of the Holy Forefather Abraham and his nephew Lot, Metropolitan Pavel of Vyshgorod and Chernobyl, abbot of the Dormition Laura of the Caves in Kiev, officiated at the Divine Liturgy in the Church of the Holy Forefathers at the metochion of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Hebron. Concelebrating with him were Bishop Dionisy of Shepetovka and Slavuta; Hegumen Feofan, acting head of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem; clergy of the Mission; and ordained pilgrims. Among those praying at the service was Hegumenness Georgia, mother superior of the Gorny Convent, and sisters of the abode.
After the Liturgy the procession went to the oak of Mamre. According to a legend, under the canopy of this very oak Abraham offered hospitality to the three Angels who foretold him the birth of a son.
Metropolitan Pavel noted the large-scale-work for preserving and restoring the Orthodox shrines in the Holy Land, carried out by the leadership of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem, the website of the Mission reports.
