Commemorative events devoted to 65th anniversary of the demise of Archbishop Seraphim (Sobolev) to be held in Sofia
On February 11, 2015, an official delegation of the Russian Orthodox Church arrived in Sofia, with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, to take part in commemorative events devoted to the 65th anniversary of the demise of Archbishop Seraphim (Sobolev, 1881-1950), rector of the Russian embassy church in Sofia and dean of the Russian parishes in Bulgaria in the period from 1921 to 1950s.
The delegation is led by Metropolitan Longin of Saratov and Volsk. He is accompanied by the Rev. Alexander Chebotarev and Mr. A. Perepelitsyn.
At the airport the guests were met by a welcoming party led by Metropolitan John of Varna and Veliki Preslav, Bulgarian Orthodox Church.
On the same day, Russia’s Ambassador Yu. Isakov gave a dinner in honour of the ROC delegation at the Russian embassy in Bulgaria.
The commemorative events marking the 65th anniversary of the demise of Archbishop Seraphim will be held in Sofia from February 13 to 15.
There will be requiem services at the Russian St. Nicholas church and at the Memorial to the Russian Refugees Who Died in Bulgaria at the city central cemetery.
The premiere of a documentary devoted to Archbishop Seraphim will take place at the Russian Culture and Information Center in Sofia. It is also planned to hold a meeting at the Moscow House.
