June 20, 2018 – Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Moscow Patriarchate department for external church relations (DECR), met with the Ambassador of Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Austria to Russia H. E. Johannes Eigner.
They were joined in their talk by Deacon Andrey Titushkin, DECR secretary for far-abroad countries.
His Eminence Hilarion warmly welcomed the high-ranking diplomat to the oldest church establishment responsible for external contacts of the Russian Orthodox Church. The ambassador, in his turn, stressed that for him a meeting with Metropolitan Hilarion was of special importance since he is well aware of the ecclesial diplomatic and public work of the church hierarch.
Metropolitan Hilarion shared his warm remembrances of his service in Austria in the capacity of Bishop of Vienna and Austria and stressed that he preserved very good relations with many Austrian state, church and public figures.
The archpastor also told his interlocutor about the present state of the Russian Orthodox Church, its cooperation with state institutions, Christian confessions and about the inter-Orthodox dialogue.
