Delegation of Russian Orthodox Church visited Romania
With a blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, a delegation of the Russian Orthodox Church visited Romania. It was led by Bishop Paramon of Sergiev Posad, abbot of the St. Sergius Laura of the Holy Trinity.
On May 8, 2019, the eve of the Victory Day, the delegation visited the War Memorial in Bucharest. They celebrated the memorial service for the dead soldier-liberators who were killed in action in the territory of Romania during World War II.
The Russian Orthodox delegation was also invited to the festive reception given by the Russian embassy in Romania on the 74th anniversary of the victory in the 1941-1945 Great Patriotic War.
On the following day, the guests from the Russian Orthodox Church were received in audience by His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of Romania. Welcoming Bishop Paramon, His Beatitude said, “Please, convey my Paschal greetings to Patriarch Kirill, our honourable Brother. May the All-Merciful Lord help us continue our fraternal fellowship in the joy of the Resurrection of Christ”.
After the meeting, the delegation was taken on a tour of the patriarchal residence. The guests were accompanied by Bishop Varlaam of Ploiesti, Assistant Bishop to the Patriarch.
In the evening of the same day, a presentation of the Romanian version of Patriarch Kirill’s book “Thoughts for Every Day of the Year” took place at the Russian Science and Culture Center in Bucharest. Present at the presentation were Bishop Varlaam, Russian diplomats, representatives of the public, cultural figures and clergy.
During their stay in Bucharest, the delegation visited the Radu Voda Monastery, the New Church of St. George, in which the relics of the Holy Prince Constantine Brynkovihanu are kept, the Church of St. Spyridon and other shrines of the Roman Orthodox Church.
