Khmer version of the Divine Liturgy comes out in Cambodia
The Khmer version of the Divine Liturgy has come out in Cambodia. In addition to the text of the Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom, the book also contains the prayers before and after the Holy Communion.
The translation was made with the blessing of the Russian Orthodox Church representative in Thailand, Archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin). The translators group, led by Hieromonk Paisius (Opate), acting rector of Orthodox parishes in Cambodia, included both Russian- and Khmer-speaking parishioners. Special contributions were made by Basil (Prom Phanna), Dionisy Nikitin and Maria Than Sinan.
Considering the peculiarities of the language and in order to avoid dogmatic distortions, theological terms difficult for translation were left in Russian and Greek with explanatory footnotes, the ROC Thailand Representation reports.
As was noted by the first readers, ‘the translation is good and understandable to native speakers’. The edition will be distributed to the Moscow Patriarchate parishes in the Kingdom of Cambodia.
