Patriarch Kirill calls upon religious leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia to help stop bloodshed in Nagorno Karabakh
His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia has sent messages to Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II and Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshuqur Pasha-zade, chairman of the Caucasus Moslem Board, stating the concern and anxiety with which he took the tragic news about the hostilities in Nagorno Karabakh resulting in the death of dozens and wounds of hundreds of people.
‘I trust in God’s help for an early cessation of fire and reconciliation of the sides’, the Patriarchal messages state. His Holiness notes that in these grievous days he prayerfully sympathizes with the peoples of Armenia and Azerbaijan.
His Holiness states that the religious leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia have been serving the task to overcome the Nagorno-Karabakh problem for many years now. ‘It is my conviction that this precious experience is called today to become a foundation for building a lasting and just peace’, he stressed.
The Primate of the Russian Church has called upon Patriarch and Catholicos Karekin II and Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshuqur Pasha-zade to use all their authority as religious leaders to help stop the bloodshed and enmity.
‘On my part, I am ready to do all that is possible for me to help the good cause of settling the conflict’, His Holiness concluded.
