DECR Deputy Chairman Takes Part in the Opening of the 56th Meeting of the World Coordinating Council of Russian Compatriots

On 16^th June 2026, the 56^th meeting of the World Coordinating Council of Russian Compatriots took place at the Samfar Tverskaya Moscow Hotel in the Russian capital. Presiding at the meeting, which brought together heads of the Council’s branches and working bodies, as well as heads and representatives of the regional councils of the Russian compatriots’ organizations, was Mr Mikhail Drozdov, Chairman of the World Coordinating Council of Russian Compatriots.

The list of speakers included Mr Grigory Karasin, Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs; Mr Kazbek Taysaev, First Deputy Chair of the State Duma Committee on Issues of the Commonwealth of Independent States and Contacts with Fellow Countrymen; and Mr Gennadiy Ovechko, Director of the Department for Relations with Compatriots Abroad of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Executive Secretary of the Government Commission on Compatriots Living Abroad.

Archpriest Igor Vyzhanov, Deputy Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, was among the participants in the meeting. He read out a message of greetings from the DECR Chairman, Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk. The message said, in particular, that the Russian Orthodox Church’s parishes abroad play an important role in uniting Russian compatriots, preserving their spiritual and cultural heritage and supporting the Russian language and traditional values.
