On April 17 – 21, 2026, with the blessing of Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, Chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, Mr Daniil Arakelyan of the DECR Secretariat for Inter-Christian Relations, took part in the Asian Ecumenical Youth Assembly in Chiang Mai, Kingdom of Thailand, organized by the Christian Conference of Asia.
The Assembly addressed various social and spiritual issues of topical importance, highlighting the role young people play in tackling them. The meeting brought together 202 delegates of Christian churches from more than twenty countries in the region.
The delegate of the Russian Orthodox Church moderated a section on youth morality. During a session that focused on how present-day topical issues are reflected in Christian communities’ liturgical practice, Mr Arakelyan presented his remarks on the text of the Prayer for the Holy Rus’, which is offered at every Divine Liturgy in Russian Orthodox churches.
On April 19, with the blessing of Metropolitan Sergiy of Singapore and South-East Asia, Patriarchal Exarch of South-East-Asia, a group of the Assembly participants visited the Church of the Holy Prince Vladimir, Equal-to-the-Apostles, in the city of Chiang Mai. There, they attended the Liturgy and talked with the church rector, Priest Pavel Srisumoro, who told the guests about the Orthodox worship and doctrine and the activities of the Russian Orthodox Church in Thailand.
On the sidelines of the Assembly, Mr Arakelyan met with the General Secretary of the Christian Conference of Asia, Dr Mathews George Chunakara. They discussed current relations between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Christian Conference of Asia.
