DECR Chairman meets with Lebanese Ambassador to Russia

On December 22, Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations (DECR), met with H.E. Bashir Chauki Saleh Azzam, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Lebanese Republic to the Russian Federation.

Metropolitan Anthony congratulated the diplomat on his appointment as Ambassador of Lebanon to Russia. The hierarch spoke about the activities of the Department for External Church Relations, as well as about relations between the Antiochian Orthodox Church and the Russian Orthodox Church.

The Ambassador expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality. He shared insights about the coexistence of various cultures and religions in Lebanon, and mentioned in particular the experience of the Russian state in fostering neighboring relations among numerous nationalities as well as constructive cooperation among traditional religious communities.

The parties discussed various issues of cooperation.

Attending the meeting was аarchpriest Sergy Zvonarev, DECR secretary for far abroad countries.
