Memorial services for Russia’s Ambassador to the DPRK Alexander Matsegora celebrated in the Diocese of Korea

On 17^th December 2025, a memorial service for deceased Alexander Matsegora, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, was celebrated in the Church of the Holy Life-Giving Trinity in Pyongyang.

Celebrating the service was the rector of the Holy Trinity Church, Priest Vladimir Zhang. Among those in attendance were representatives of the Russian Embassy and their family members, as well as Korean counterparts and friends of Alexander Matsegora and staff members of the diplomatic missions accredited to Pyongyang.

After the service, Father Vladimir read out condolences from Archbishop Theophan of Korea, ruling hierarch of the Korea Diocese.

On 18^th December, a memorial service for Alexander Matsegora was celebrated by Archbishop Theophan in the Holy Resurrection Church in Seoul, reports the website of the Korea Diocese. Attending the service were Mr Georgy Zinoviev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Korea, as well as representatives of the Russian Embassy and local parishioners.

Ambassador Alexander Matsegora died on 6^th December 2025 at the age of 70. From December 2014, he had led the diplomatic mission of the Russian Federation to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, making his considerable contribution to promoting relations between the Russian Federation and the DPRK.

The death of Ambassador Alexander Matsegora is a great and irreplaceable loss for all those who knew him well. An outstanding diplomat and a man of great tact, he left a deep mark in the history of Russia-Korea relations.
